Earlier this year, we were able to catch up with Dane Allan Simonsen as he competed at the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hours.

Racing with Maranello Motorsports and the Ferrari 458 GT3, we all knew he had pace after setting a 2:04.9 at a test session at the track – seconds faster than Greg Murphy’s previous lap record for V8 Supercars, set in 2003 – which has yet to be beaten in that category.

The qualifying pace of the Ferrari was limited by the rule book, but he was enomoursly quick in the race, battling to the lead and pulling a gap before a fuel issue set the car a couple of laps back.  They had battled back before a mechanical issue put the car out of the race for good.

Simonsen had competed as a factory Hankook driver prior to 2012 and this year, finds himself a gun for hire.  He will race for Aston Martin in the GTE class at Le Mans.
