Beau Robinson’s Tonka Truck takes a jump at the TJM Lockyer 300 at the Australian Off Road Championship

Beau Robinson has been a front runner in the Australian Off Road Championship this year in his Tonka Truck (yes, I just wanted to say that) and after taking his debut win earlier this year, he has been in title contention coming into the final round at the TJM Lockyer 300.

Robinson is passionate about the Championship and developing his Truck in this series.  It is a rare series that offers an open formula which allows the racers to adapt and innovate – in sometimes strange ways.

The Championship – the AORC –  events are defined as ‘long course’ events that are conducted on a track of no less than 15 kilometres in length. The courses and tracks used for the AORC are often narrow, twisting, tree lined tracks, undulating farmland tracks, mountain tracks and river crossings, sometimes incorporating man made jumps and other obstacles.  There are a number of different classes of competition with vehicles ranging from purpose built buggies with engines up to 6000cc to modified 4WD vehicles. Except for the single seater’s all vehicles consist of a driver/navigator team. The endurance aspect of the racing makes each course a test of driver skill and mechanical preparation. Each of these forms a championship in its own right.
This is the first time we have covered this Championship and immediately we are hooked.  The cars a massive – huge in real life, with a sound to match.
Given how fresh we are at this, Beau takes us through what he races, why is here and some of the challenges he, as a racer faces.
Well worth a listen.
