Vincent Verschueren expecting tough title defence in Belgian Rally Championship

Vincent Verschueren is expecting a tough fight to keep his Belgian Rally Championship as the 2018 season gets underway at the Rally van Haspengouw.

Changes to the calendar – seeing an additional rally being added but only the best six scores being counted means that any mistakes will be harshly punished this year.

Verschueren won last year with a mix of wins – with two, and consistency – as his Kris Princen, main rival won more rallies. This year it may be more difficult to achieve such a feat.

There is also additional competition in this years Championship as three Skoda – Verschueren, Princen and Cedric Cherain are all expected to challenge for the title. Plus one can never truly count out the Peugeot Benelux team with Guillaume de Mevius behind the wheel.

This weekend’s rally will see dry conditions with temperatures about 10 degrees cooler than last year.

The conditions mean that gaining an advantage will be hard. This has two effects – one the rally will be close and two mistakes will be made.

Verschueren is aware of the pitfalls as he aims to make the most of his title defence.
