WEC: “We are on full focus for Le Mans” – Thomas Laurent

This interview was conducted before the #3 Rebellion was promoted to the podium

It was a positive showing for the LMP1 Rebellion outfit proving to be the fastest non-Toyota squad. It was also a good showing by Thomas Laurent. Stepping into LMP1 and the Rebellion team after racing with the Jackie Chan DC squad last year, he performed well with teammates Andre Lotterer and Gustavo Menezes.

#3 Rebellion Racing Rebellion R-13: Mathias Beche, Gustavo Menezes, Thomas Laurent FP3, 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps, Circuit De Spa-Francorchamps, Route du Circuit, Francorchamps, Belgium

Sam Tickell: That was very exciting. What was it like from your seat battling with the Rebellion and SMP?

Thomas Laurent: From my point of view – the SMP nowhere. At the beginning it was like 1 second of gap – something like that then in the middle it was really nice in the middle of the race for them. So a big surprise for SMP. They are our challenger and we challenge them so it was not so bad at the end.

The car is really nice and the team did a great job to put the car in a position to finish the 6 Hour races. A really good job from our car, Rebellion, the mechanics and the entire team.

It was a tough race, not easy but a really good one in LMP1.

ST: Were there any issues on the car? Anything to concentrate on for Le Mans?

TL: No. The biggest issue that we had was a puncture so that was not due to the car. So yeah, it was not bad. We are on full focus for Le Mans. We know where to work a little on the setup to improve the range of the car and the life of the tyres. So that is it.

ST: Your drive – were you happy with your performance?

TL: I enjoy it a lot. I knew that Andre was in P3 and he was 45 seconds at the front so I enjoy my stint. I put in some good laps and overtakes. So I just enjoyed the last part of the race.

ST: Thank-you

TL: Pleasure.
