Usually, at least for me and what I am used to, rally service parks are placed in the middle of a field. In the middle of nowhere.
While I guess that is quite impossible to do in Belgium, so they put them in market squares. And there is none more spectacular than Ypres. The Ypres Rally service park is in the old (rebuilt after WW1) market square, massive buildings surround. The city quite literally becomes the rally for the weekend. All embracing. It quite the atmosphere to take in.
Together with the rally, they had a penalty shootout between the Belgian drivers and the English – which went in favour of the Belgians…
If you ever have the chance, I would recommend a trip to Ypres!
