The Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour always throws up a great race, this year was no exception. Here are some things we noticed about this year’s race

1. The winning #912 Porsche completed 312 laps – a record. The previous record was 296 laps by Maranello Ferrari in 2014
2. The distance covered was 1938km -with an average pace of 161km/h almost double that of the famed Bathurst 1000. The 2018 B1000 was also a record with the race going 6 hours 1 minute 44 seconds, showing over a race distance the two categories are well matched despite radically different philosophies 
3. The average green flag lap time of the winning Porsche was 2:06.5. For reference, the fastest race lap in 2013 was a 2:06.8. You can’t beat progress!
4. The race was unusually devoid of yellow flags with a continuous four hour period or 111 laps being run under green flag conditions. In all, there were 8 safety car periods for a total of 22 laps
5. 13 of the 38 starters retired with 2 being eliminated before the race started.
6. Dirk Werner has some impressive stats to his name but this is his first outright win in an endurance race (previously he won the 400km of Virginia in 2007 in a Porsche)
7. Denis Olson had raced in the New Zealand Toyota Racing Series, Porsche in China, Middle East and Supercup winner but this is his first win outside Europe
8. Matt Campbell has stood on all the steps of the Bathurst 12 Hour podium. He has a (class) third in 2014 in a Fiat,  a second 2017 and 2018, a Pro-Am win in 2018 with Competition Motorsports and now the win
9. This was Earl Bamber Motorsports first race and now they have a 100 percent winning record
10. 2019 was Porsche’s first win at the Bathurst 12 Hour, joining their German counterparts in dominating the race. Mercedes has won 2013. Audi in 2011, 2012, 2018 and BMW won in the production car days in 2007 and 2010
11. While Matt Campbell held the Aussie flag, it was the internationals who dominated this event with only two Australian entered cars in the top 10 (the Triple 8 Mercedes and Matt Stone Racing Audi) and only 7 Australian drivers in the 30 that made up the top 10 teams (and Shane van Gisbergen as the lone Kiwi)
12. 2019 is the first time a New Zealand flagged team has won the Bathurst 12 Hour
