Extreme H, the world’s first hydrogen-powered motorsport championship, is set to make its debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, starting today, and in a rare and powerful moment for motorsport, four extraordinary female drivers will take on the famous hillclimb at the wheel of the new Pioneer 25.
A bold evolution of its electric predecessor Extreme E, Extreme H showcases the future of sustainable racing by pairing cutting-edge hydrogen technology with world-class, gender equaldriver talent. Across all four live event days, the Championship’s hydrogen race car, Pioneer 25, will run the 1.16-mile hillclimb through the historic Goodwood Estate, giving thousands of spectators an up-close look at motorsport’s next era.
This debut is made even more special by the unprecedented line-up of four female drivers, a true rarity in motorsport and a reflection of Extreme H’s commitment to gender parity and inclusion.
James Taylor, Extreme H’s Chief Championship Officer, says: “Showcasing the Pioneer 25 at Goodwood Festival of Speed is a milestone moment for Extreme H, but what makes it even more special is seeing four of our incredible female drivers take on the iconic hillclimb.
“It’s a rare and powerful statement in motorsport, and it perfectly reflects our commitment to innovation not only in technology but also in breaking down barriers and driving greater gender balance on the race course. We’re proud to be part of that change and can’t wait to see them take to the hill in front of the crowds at Goodwood.”
Catie Munnings (UK) – Thursday, 09:10
The first ever female athlete signed by Red Bull UK, Catie has raced in every Extreme E event and ranked as the championship’s third fastest driver overall at this season’s Desert X Prix. Over four seasons, Extreme E’s female drivers have impressively closed the speed gap with their male teammates by 70%, a testament to talent and determination.
Cristina Gutiérrez (Spain) – Friday, 08:30 & 17:35
Cristina became Extreme E’s Season 2 champion alongside Sébastien Loeb, driving for Lewis Hamilton’s Team X44. In 2024, she made history as only the second woman ever to win a class at the Dakar Rally. Away from the racetrack, Cristina also works as a dentist, embodying resilience and versatility.
Klara Andersson (Sweden) – Saturday, 10:55 & Sunday, 09:20 & 17:55
After becoming Swedish Junior Rallycross Champion in 2021, Klara stormed onto the Extreme E scene with a debut podium finish. She then broke new ground in World Rallycross as the first permanent female driver, also the first woman to claim a heat win and stand on the podium.
Amanda Sorensen (USA) – Saturday, 16:50
Starting her racing career at age six in a go-kart, Amanda now competes in Formula DRIFT, where she became the first female to achieve a podium finish in 2024. She also made a winning debut for Chip Ganassi Racing in Extreme E, and connects to millions as the most-followed driver in the paddock with over 1.8 million Instagram followers.
Extreme H on the Hill and in the Future Lab
The Pioneer 25 will tackle the hill each day, with a second car on display all weekend at the Randox Future Lab, Goodwood’s hub for trailblazing science and technology. There, fans can get hands-on with the car’s hydrogen systems and discover how Extreme H is pushing racing into a cleaner, faster future.
Breaking barriers, driving change
By bringing four female drivers to the hillclimb, Extreme H sets a new benchmark for representation in motorsport, proving that the championship isn’t just about pioneering hydrogen racing, but also about challenging old norms and inspiring a new generation of female racers to follow in their footsteps.
Fans can also look forward to panel talks and behind-the-scenes insights across the weekend, exploring the championship’s journey, its barrier-breaking drivers, and what lies ahead as Extreme H prepares to launch later this year.
