Vincent Verschueren has carved out a notable presence in the Belgian rallying scene. A former champion with a distinguished background in both Škoda and Volkswagen, he is now charting a new course with his own team and the Citroën C3 Rally2.
Reflecting on the Past Year
After debuting as a team owner last year at the Rally van Haspengouw, Verschueren enters the 2025 Belgian Rally Championship with renewed confidence, buoyed by a year of experience that included a podium finish at the Omloop van Vlaanderen. “It was a very busy year because everything was new; the team was new, so everything had to get put together. It was also done in a very short time, and now we are one year further, and everything is a lot smoother now,” he shared.
Verschueren acknowledges the evolution of both the car and team dynamics, crediting his support staff. “I have very good people around me, and this helps me a lot for everything. Motivation is very strong because of that.”
Adapting to a New Season
Moving into his second year with the Citroën C3 Rally2, Verschueren is keenly aware of the learning curve involved in adapting to a new vehicle while managing a team. “The experiments from last year can help me through this year. So let’s see what the first stages will say! The car has its own characteristics, and every car is different; you just need to adapt a little bit to the style of the Citroën and adapt the Citroën a little bit to my style,” he explained. “If you find a good balance between then I think you can be very fast.”
With several formidable competitors vying for the BRC title this season, Verschueren’s determination remains palpable. “Our mission is to do a complete season, but we are still looking for some budget for the last two rounds of the championship. So we are still talking to some people, but it’s very difficult to find a decent budget to do the complete championship!”
Despite a rocky start to the season, marked by a retirement due to technical issues, Verschueren exhibited promising pace in the opening stages of Rally van Haspengouw, placing him among the frontrunners.
“I don’t know; I don’t like to make predictions! Cherian, for sure, has a different programme, but he will be very quick with the Porsche. He’s always quick! It’s also nice to have a driver who is very fast in another type of car, but for sure he will find it hard for the victory, I think,” Verschueren observed. “There are still some other very strong drivers like Verstappen and Neils Reynvoet—they’re all very fast drivers, and I’m sure there will be some one-offs this year…”
Aiming for Redemption
As the pressure mounts, all eyes will be on Verschueren at the upcoming TAC Rally. With the disappointment of Haspengouw behind him, he is poised to reclaim his position at the front, ready to rise to the occasion in his pursuit of championship glory.
