Showdown in Wallonia

As the Kroon-Oil Belgian Rally Championship heads into its next chapter, Jos Verstappen stands as the clear favourite in the Rally of Wallonia, following two resounding victories. The picturesque yet challenging stages around Namur have historically favoured tight competition, with minimal margins separating the top contenders. All eyes will be on the debuting Porsche 992 Rally GT, which has generated considerable excitement, especially following Cédric Cherain’s stellar performance at the TAC Rally.

Verstappen’s path to victory is likely to be contested primarily by the Rally2 machines. Last season, he appeared poised for triumph until misfortune struck with a pair of punctures. The undulating terrain of Wallonia complements his driving style as well as his reliable Škoda. However, one cannot overlook Adrian Fernémont, the two-time champion who has a strong track record on his home turf, and who this time returns armed with a formidable Škoda Fabia RS. Equally confident is Vincent Verschueren, fresh off his own triumph at the TAC Rally, a performance that has left him well-prepared for the fast roads of Namur.

A Diverse Contingent

Defending champion Niels Reynvoet enters the fray with the Hyundai, having posted competitive times last year. Alongside him, Cherain—who has showcased his prowess this season with a Porsche 991—forms the quintet believed to be in contention for the overall victory. Yet, potential dark horses abound. Look out for Bastien Rouard, who has displayed enviable speed in the BMA Hyundai, and Tom Rensonnet, who may be inching closer to the summit of the standings.

Emile Breittmayer demonstrated his capability at Haspengouw and could present a serious challenge to Verstappen, while Nicola Stampaert continues to show promise with his evolving skills in the Škoda Fabia RS. The Rally2 ensemble also features Thibaud Mazuin, who aspires to shine in front of his hometown supporters, along with Sébastien Incardona, Jimmy D’hondt, Richard Pex, and Dutch driver Joep Luth.

Rounding out this assortment of talent are several powerful GT entries. In addition to Cherain, Cédric De Cecco will make his mark with another 992 Rally GT, while Romain Delhez, Valentin Brahy, and others vie for glory in the 991 GT3s. The Rally3s, helmed by Benoit Verlinde and Xavier Dekeyser, may face challenges navigating the swift routes, while the Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup Belux promises to inject additional excitement into this spectacular event, running on the weekend of 26th and 27th April in and around Namur.
