The 2025 Spa Rally’s entry list gleams with elite talent and technical variety. Four Porsche 992 Rally GTs—piloted by Cherain, Bux, Wartique, and Delhez—will be joined by Potty’s Alpine A110 RGT+, while the formidable RC2 class sees sixteen Rally2 and R5 entrants poised for battle. Andreas Mikkelsen, accompanied by the prodigious Pieter Tsjoen, enters as the pre-eminent favourite, armed with the latest Toyota GR Rally2. Germany’s Björn Satorius is set to provide continental counterpoint in matching machinery.

Domestic hopes rest on Lifelive Motorsport’s i20 N Rally2s for De Cecco and Rensonnet, with Breittmayer and seasoned navigator Prévot angling for podium ambitions. Rising stars Martens and Heindrichs, both in Citroën C3 Rally2s, represent the new breed—capable of headline-making performances from the outset.

The RC2 field shimmers with variety: Nuyts, Bouillon, Mazuin, Ten Brinke, and Pex gravitate to the Skoda Fabia Rally2 RS spec, while Van Merksteijn maintains faith in the venerable Polo GTi R5. Regulars like Jimmy D’Hondt in his Citroën and Emmanuel Gonay (a Spa specialist) join Luxembourg’s Rollinger in a Peugeot 208 T16. The group is completed by three Clio Rally3s, with Hubin, Dekeyser, and Verlinde sure to animate the midfield with their competitive spirit.

What does history teach us?

Traditionally, the Spa Rally is a crucible for late-season drama, technical mastery, and unpredictable conditions—its stages routinely weaving through fog, winter sun, and the slippery contours of the Ardennes. Previous editions have seen high-profile duels, emergent champions, and punctuations of local pride. In 2024, Verstappen snatched victory in a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, while Cédric Cherain secured the overall BRC title amidst close-fought competition and frequent lead changes—hallmarks of the event’s character.

Historically, Spa rallies are marked by:

  • Frequent weather changes, demanding versatile setups and driver adaptability.

  • Technical stages that reward precision, nerve, and occasionally, local knowledge.

  • Late-stage drama, as both international stars and homegrown talents vie for supremacy into the winter dusk.

  • A festive, communal atmosphere that belies the intensity of competition.

Expect, in 2025, a continuation of these traditions: dramatic pace swings, unpredictable outcomes, and an atmosphere rich in both heritage and ambition. The tendency for surprises—whether via emerging talents or seasoned campaigners—is not merely possible, but all but guaranteed.
