We have something new today, as we catch up with a kart racer – Ricky Capo.  This is the first time that we have interviewed a kart racer and the interview was quite interesting.

Ricky Capo is a Melbourne based seventeen year old racing driver currently competing in KZ for Praga Karts internationally.  He has competed both nationally in Australia and internationally including:

  • Victorian State Championships
  • Tasmanian State Championships
  • Junior Top Gun Series Championships x2
  • King of KZ2 Round 2
  • City of Melbourne Championships
  • City of Sydney Championships
  • City of Adelaide Championships
  • Australasian Kart Titles Championships
  • National Championships, New Zealand
  • World Championships, Italy
  • Winter Cup, Italy
  • Bridgestone Cup, France

I’m no karting expert, so to try to explain what KZ karting is, I’ve taken to Wikipedia, which states:

KZ1 is a kart racing class using 125 cc water-cooled two-stroke engines yielding approximately 42 hp, equipped with a 6-speed gearbox. Technical regulations are similar to KZ2 except for the gearbox which can be either manual or electro-mechanical and the use of soft tires.[1] Both engines and chassis must be approved by the CIKFIA racing governing commission. It is open to top drivers aged 15 and over. Minimum weight is 175 kg.”

In this interview we talk with Ricky about his karting career and he makes two big announcements about his plans in September and his 2014 plans.
