Paul Stokell should be a name all motorsport fans should know.  He has won his fair share of Australian titles – beaten his fair share of champions.

If we look at his results we see that he won three Formula Holden Championships – the CAMS Gold Star championship of the time.  He beat out Mark Skaife and Mark Webber for the Championship.  In fact his 1995 Championship saw him take a perfect score – six wins from the six round championship.  Again, in that year, Mark Skaife and Mark Webber had to play second fiddle to Stokell.  He would also take the 1994 and 1996 Championships in a Reynard 91D.

He would also take two Nations Cup Championships in the Lamborghini Diablo GTR.  Competing against the Holden Monaro, he would never stand a chance at Bathurst.  The Monaro was widely considered a Bathurst special and is arguably a reason why the 24 hour race ran twice.   But I digress – he would go onto take two Championships in 2003 and 2004.

He would also take a Mini Challenge Championship and two second places in the Series point standings.  He would also compete overseas in GT racing, test F3000 and race on occasion in V8 Supercars.  He also played a pretty heavy role in the Fiat Abarth run at this year’s Bathurst 12 Hours.

Now he makes his living running a drive day and driver training.  We caught up with him during a drive day at Morgan Park. We talked his career, his highlights and more.

Race 2 of the 2000 Nations Cup race at the Gold Coast didn’t go to plan but better things were to come for the team.
