Warm and windy conditions greeted riders for qualifying for round 5 of the Australian Superbike championship.
The first of two qualifying sessions for the day got underway with Wayne Maxwell taking advantage of a clear track to set the early pace with his other championship rivals taking charge in the second half of the 30 minute session.
Troy Herfoss was that rider who took charge by setting a lap quicker than the qualifying lap record. Troy Bayliss was the only competitor to get near what was an extraordinary lap by Herfoss. Josh Waters was the next in line chasing with Wayne Maxwell and Bryan Staring rounding out the top 5.
The second qualifying for the day took place in windy conditions much like the first session. Times weren’t improved throughout the session with conditions working against riders with many struggling with the wind.
Troy Herfoss captured the pole given this fact with Troy Bayliss for Ducati in a close second with a happy Josh Waters in third on his Suzuki.
