Troy Herfoss proved the once again why he is the championship leader with what could be a decisive weekend in the race for the championship.
A pair of wins for Herfoss from what could be classed as stellar rides, with the second race also seeing a new lap record for Herfoss aboard his Honda. Initially in both of Sundays races Herfoss faced stiff competition from Josh Waters and Troy Bayliss.
Race 1 saw Bayliss lead from Herfoss with the later being able to make a pass with 2 laps remaining to win, in what was a race that saw a red flag and full restart on lap 2.
Race 2 was a different story from the first, Herfoss started on pole only to be fourth going into the first corner after a poor start. Bayliss lead the race and commanded the early lead from Waters and Maxwell who were holding Herfoss at bay. Herfoss made a pass on Maxwell and set his sights on Waters and Bayliss up the road. After disposing of Waters for second, Herfoss had only one intention, to win, Troy Bayliss seemed to struggle on what for him, was possibly a chance to close the gap in the championship. Herfoss made the pass to take the lead and pull away from Bayliss and Waters with Bayliss being victim of his own mistake in turn two, dropping off the track and losing two places to eventual podium finishers Waters and Maxwell.
Round 6 takes place on the 8th and 9th of September at Winton Motor Raceway.
