With only one week to go until the Silverstone Festival kicks off, we thought we would take a quick look at what the organisers have planned for this year.
One of the main highlights will be a tribute to Ayrton Senna.
The biggest and best-ever collection of Ayrton Senna cars will be one of the standout highlights at this month’s Silverstone Festival (23-25 August).
Staged at the circuit where the legendary Brazilian won more races than anywhere else, the very special display will feature more than 25 exhibits spanning Senna’s entire career from teenage karting right up to his three FIA Formula One World Championship titles.
Adding to the excitement, Ayrton’s niece Lalalli Senna will be exhibiting her art at the Festival while his nephew Bruno Senna will be attending not only to meet and greet visitors but also to drive one of his uncle’s F1 racers on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit on Saturday.
“Ayrton Senna was one of the greatest and most inspirational F1 drivers of all eras and, to pay tribute to his legacy, we were determined to honour his remarkable achievements at Silverstone where he enjoyed so much success in Formula Ford, Formula 3 and Formula 1,” said Nick Wigley, Event Director. “This will be the most comprehensive collection of Senna cars ever assembled and it’s very unlikely that such an incredible gathering will ever be seen again. It’s not to be missed.”
The exceptional, one-off tribute has been organised with the full support of both the Senna family and Senna Brands. “Ayrton always had a very strong connection with Silverstone. His history in motorsport includes memorable victories at this circuit, and he raced for British teams. We are excited to participate in the Festival this year, which is so special as we celebrate 30 years of Senna’s legacy,” said Bianca Senna, CEO of Senna Brands and the triple world champion’s niece. “We congratulate and thank all those making this brilliant celebration possible – it is definitely a wonderful tribute that will move fans worldwide.”
“Silverstone Festival is putting together an amazing tribute to honour Ayrton’s legacy,” added Bruno Senna who is delighted to be commemorating his uncle’s outstanding achievements. “Even 30 years later, Ayrton is still extremely influential and dear to millions of people around the world, so it’s hugely exciting to be part of this occasion and among so many of his iconic cars.”
Following on with the F1 theme, spectators will be able to see a special Mercedes-AMG Petronas power show.
- Tribute to the team’s decade of hybrid era dominance
- Collection of five iconic Grands Prix winners on show
- Cars raced by Hamilton, Russell, Rosberg and Bottas
The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team will celebrate a decade of unrivalled success with a very special display at this summer’s Silverstone Festival (23-25 August).
Since the 2014 introduction of the latest generation of 1.6-litre, turbocharged V6 power units complete with hybrid energy recovery systems, the team has amassed no fewer than eight Constructors’ and seven Drivers’ Championships – six of those taken by Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg.
The locally-based team will honour those remarkable achievements with a stellar, one-off showcase at the home of the British Grand Prix where the Silver Arrows team has won in front of a home crowd seven times since 2014.
Billed as A Decade of Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Power, the display will feature five seminal F1 winning cars – two of Hamilton’s title winners from 2017 and 2019 accompanied by those raced by Rosberg, Valtteri Bottas and George Russell in 2014, 2018 and 2022 (photos below).
While busy at Zandvoort over the Festival weekend, all four drivers will be represented by their distinctive helmets which will be on prominent show together with a pair of modern era, high-tech Hybrid F1 power units.
“Mercedes-AMG PETRONS F1 has been the dominant force during the latest era of hybrid engines and this is an exclusive display that no Formula 1 fan – especially those fans of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell – will want to miss,” emphasised Nick Wigley, Event Director. “The Silverstone Festival prides itself in celebrating all eras of Grand Prix race history – both on and off the circuit – and this very special showcase will bring the F1 story right up-to-date. It will not only give Festival visitors a very rare opportunity to see these GP winners up close but also provide them with a rare insight into the innovative technologies that propel modern F1 cars.”
Offering incredible family entertainment, the three-day Festival is one of the world’s greatest motorsport events celebrating a past era with the best historic track action. It also offers fun for all the family with live music, a Foodie Fest, shopping village, fun fair rides, a Fan Zone celebrating the world of modern Formula 1 and an Adrenaline Zone.
