Video: Toyota tests Yaris WRC

Share

Video has emerged of the Toyota Yaris WRC project testing in Italy.

It is understood that Stephane Sarrazin is leading the testing with the very experienced Sebastian Lindholm joining the team.  The test is being run by Motorsport Italia who have recently run the Mini WRC program.

Sarrazin is a past French Rally Champion and rallied for the factory Subaru team prior to joining Toyota’s Le Mans program.  Lindholm is the cousin of double WRC Champ, Marcus Gronholm and is a seven time Finnish Rally Champion.

Testing in this way is not foreign to Toyota who had Oreca do the early testing of their Le Mans car a couple of years back.

Autosport have reported that the test went well although Toyota have said they will not rally prior to the new rules in 2017 though a 2016 return to the WRC could be on the cards.  It is expected that Toyota will return with a hybrid system if the rules allow for it.

A return to the top flight is a long way off but with progress like this a national class car could be here earlier…
