The Australian Superbike Championship had a fraught off season but they returned over the weekend for the first of three rounds and defending Supersport Champion, Daniel Falzon took two thrilling victories in the categories two races.

Daniel was in a massive three way battle with Callum Spriggs and Aiden Wagner all on Yamaha YZF-R6s.  In race two in particular the three would be swapping the lead every lap, rarely separated my more than half a second.  This race came after Daniel lost the Superpole on the last lap and had to fight towards a race 1 win.  He had the added challenge of over coming Sam Lambert’s Triumph in race 1, but a first-corner last-lap crash ruled him out of the fight.

For all the negativity about the Championship off track, the Supersport class showed that the category is strong and the racing is fantastic.

In this interview we talk to Daniel about his opening round success and what it is like to return to the Series as a defending Champion.
