Taking a look at drifting – R1 of D1WA

Share

2016 kicked off with the D1WA – the Western Australian drift scene is the most vibrant in Australia.  Practice and the first round took place at Collie Motorplex in Perth. The competitors took on the main track. It was Mitch Larner who took a comfortable win with 110 points from Adam Monck (94.5 points) and Sean Brooks (89 points).

Simon Phillips was trackside to catch the action in this series of excellent photos.

There is a certain skill that drifters have, the ability to get sideways and keep the car on the car on a knife’s edge. The skill can’t be underrated and neither can the amazing show that it produces. Clouds of smoke, angles that have to be seen to be believed and well turned out machinery make drifting a spectacle that you don’t have to be a fan to appreciate. Here Simon truly captured that the first series of photos.

Such cars employee a plethora of high end parts. Movies really fail to give them the wow factor they deserve and until you see it up close you really can’t appreciate the various parts, the aftermarket, the craftsmanship and of course the cockpit that bears little resemblance to you every day car. Here Simon takes a look up close.

In practice and track action simply because it is so good. Even if it doesn’t go right all the time.

Of course there are people behind everything that goes on. From the officials, two mechanics, the fans and course the drivers the D1WA series needs them all and of course we are thankful for their involvement.
