The view trackside from the Daytona 24

Earlier this week we brought you the race report from the Rolex Daytona 24, here we bring you a gallery from Andrew Henderson

The banking at Daytona is legendary and massively steep. There is something special about seeing the sportscars on the banking, seeing a Lamborghini, the Deltawing, Corvette, Ligier and a DP running together. The backgrounds are different to what you normally see at a street or road race and it makes for something fun.

Where Le Mans offers just a few hours of night, Daytona’s night is a lot longer, and yes, more artificial lighting.  But it is a great time to watch racing, the mood is different, sleep deprivation has set in – for both the driver and the viewer – not to mention the photographer. At this year’s Daytona 24, the night changed the complexion of the race – particularly in GTD where the leaders clashed in the dead of night…

The people – the drivers, the pitcrews, the marshals and officials – they all make the sport possible and into something we love. We thank you for your tireless efforts in entertaining us.

The pitstops are always a bit of fun – drama filled and utterly game changing in each race. At Daytona this was no different and the crews were fighting – errors were made – as we see here with a car in on an angle. We see cars forcing other cars onto the grass.

The cars are also a thing of beauty. Close up, they are amazing beasts, if there is one shame about photography is that you don’t hear the cars.  The roar that goes along with the glorious views. You can see where every dollar goes in these cars, and it is money well spent.

And to end, funnily enough – with the pre race festivities.  The crowds on the grid, the atmosphere, the intensity, the anticipation is crazy. It is something to behold.
