Photo highlights from the MSV Media Day at Brands Hatch

Mark Horsfield was at Brands Hatch for the MSV Media Day and caught some great action – and at times drivers who didn’t seem to know that was just a media day! We hope you enjoy these photos and some information kindly supplied by MSV about the day.

MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) celebrated a decade in motorsport at its annual Media Day at Brands Hatch today (Tuesday), with the announcement of the brand new Festival Italia at Brands Hatch on Sunday 14 August, which will capture all of the emotion and beauty of one of Europe’s most exciting motoring nations with themed racing, demonstrations, displays and off-track attractions.

Italy’s long racing heritage will be celebrated at the Kent circuit with an exciting and diverse race programme, which will include two races for the stunning machines in the Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic series. The series includes racing examples of everything from the 308 of the ’70s to modern classics such as the 355 of the ’90s. There will be opportunities for spectators to get up close to these cars and soak up the event’s unique atmosphere during a free pre-race grid walk.

taly’s illustrious Grand Prix pedigree will be showcased with special Formula One demonstration runs, and the on-track show will also include a Ferrari F40 and a Lancia Stratos. Other highlights will be the Trofeo Cavalli, a special invitational race for classic Italian cars, which will be organised in conjunction with the Historic Sports Car Club, and the BRSCC Alfa Romeo Championship.

The Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain will be involved in the event in an official capacity, bringing a hospitality unit for its members, whilst allowing its car owners to take part in a ‘best in show’ competition and parade laps. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all visitors to take a closer look at some exceptionally pretty cars in pristine condition, with even more machinery included from the Ferrari Owner’s Club Hillclimb Championship.

The venue’s off-track areas will be transformed with plenty to see and do for all of the family, including an ‘Italia in Piazza’ food market, a live music stage, Italian clothes stalls, wine tasting, and children’s activities. There will also be plenty of car displays showcasing Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Fiat, Maserati, and many more.

Motorsport Events Manager David Willey commented: “I’m delighted to add Festival Italia to our calendar for 2016, adding another unique and entertaining event to our extensive portfolio. Our in-house team has proven with our American SpeedFest events that we can put on a show which is about much more than just the racing, and I’m sure that we’ve created yet another one-of-a-kind experience for the fans to enjoy. I’d like to welcome the Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain on board and look forward to working closely with them on this exciting new venture, which is a fantastic way to open our second decade in motorsport.”

MSVR will also be organising American SpeedFest IV at Brands Hatch, now expanded to a two-day event on 11/12 June, Mini Festivals at Brands Hatch on 16/17 July and Oulton Park on 20 August, and the Lotus Festival on 27/28 August. In addition, MSVR will also be running Blancpain GT at Brands Hatch on 7/8 May, the Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatch on 28/29 May, and overseeing track activity at London’s round of the FIA Formula E Championship and Chris Evans’ CarFest North and South events, raising money for BBC Children in Need.

Huge variety of championships and series

MSVR’s portfolio of 23 car championships and series will cover everything from saloons to single-seaters, and from club racers to career-minded drivers.

Single-seater racing includes the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, the UK’s leading single-seater championship, which for 2016 will feature the faster and more powerful Tatuus-Cosworth. MSVR will also run F3 Cup, the country’s only Formula 3 championship, the Monoposto Championship which covers a wide variety of single-seaters, and two series for classic Formula Ford cars, Champion of Brands and Super Series.

A range of sportscar series includes GT Cup for supercars, and Le Mans-style prototypes in the Radical Challenge Championship, Radical European Masters and Radical SR1 Cup. There are further one-make series including the Lotus Cup and Elise Trophy championships, and the Ariel Atom Cup.

There will also be several saloon series, including the MINI Challenge for modern-day versions of the British icon, whilst Volkwagen group cars competed in the VAG Trophy. Novice racers can compete in the Production BMW championship for classic 3-Series cars, or MSVT’s Trackday Trophy and new Trackday Championship, which is open to a wide variety of machinery, as is the Toyo Tyres Racing Saloons series. MSVR will also run an All-Comers series in 2016, open to a huge range of cars.
