The WEC Superseaon launch – a photo story and Prologue news updates

The 2018 WEC Superseaon has been launched at Circuit Paul Ricard and Paul Foster was there to catch the action for RacerViews. Over this weekend there will be 30 hours of testing for the 35 entrants to the test days. Included is the Toyota squad, the new TVR partnership with Rebellion and more.

Key stories from the Prologue to date include:

  • Alex Brundle will race for the CEFC TRSM Racing squad in the full FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season. Brundle, who made his WEC debut in 2013 with OAK Racing, will join Oliver Rowland and an as yet to be revealed teammate in the all-new No.6 Ginetta G60-LT-P1 Mechachrome entry. “I am delighted to be racing with CEFC TRSM in the Ginetta and am looking forward to my first track time here at the Prologue this week,” said Brundle.
  • 1000 Miles of Sebring to take place on Friday of Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring weekend •    Fans will be the winners with a great festival of racing. Following an extremely productive and positive meeting held on March 18 between the FIA World Endurance Championship, IMSA and Sebring International Raceway organizations, some key changes have been jointly agreed for the 2019 race weekend.
  • AF Corse and Ferrari have announced the full driver line ups for the three Ferrari 488 GTEs entered by the Italian team for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, round two of the FIA WEC Super Season. GT World Champions James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi will be joined by Daniel Serra behind the wheel of the No.51 488 GTE. The Brazilian took pole position in the GTD class at the recent 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring in the Spirit of Race 488 GT3. In the sister factory entry, No.71, Sam Bird, Davide Rigon and Miguel Molina will form a trio in a repeat of last year. An additional entry for AF Corse and Ferrari will be No.52 – for the French endurance marathon only – and this 488 GTE will be crewed by official factory drivers Toni Vilander, a two-time winner at Le Mans and 2014 LMGTE Champion, and Antonio Giovinazzi.  Brazil’s Luis Felipe (Pipo) Derani, fresh from victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring 2018, will share the car with them.
  • The Porsche name is synonymous with endurance racing as one of the most successful and enduring marques, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans a record 19 times to become the most victorious with its iconic and instantly recognisable models through the years Now, for the first time, Porsche AG has supplied the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the FIA World Endurance Championship with a fleet of official course cars including the official Safety Car(s). These were revealed just before the start of the WEC’s official pre-season test session, the Prologue, at Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France (Friday 6th April 2018).
