Notes from the Blancpain Sprint GT Series opener from Zolder:
- WRT have announced the drivers for their fourth car with Formula Renault driver, Gilles Magnus pairing up with Alessio Clemente Picariello. Picariello gomes with great from from Asia having taken 5 wins int he 2017 Championship and taking the Audi R8 LMS Cup last year. Magnus comes with the Vice-Championship in French Formula Renault 2.0 and was also the 24 Hours of Zolder winner last year. WRT of course have dominated the Blancpain GT Series and won the Bathurst 12 Hour earlier this year.
- There was on off for Stuart Leonard in the opening session of the 2018 Blancpain GT Sprint Series. The Audi driver lost control and nudged a tyre barrier, bringing an end to their session. There was damage but the car was able to take part in practice 2
- Chris Mies in the #1 WRT entry narrowly edged out Markus Winkelhock in the Santeloc Racing Audi. Mies’ lap time of 1.:29.720 was just 0.085 better than Winkelhock’s time. Third was the GRT Grasser Lamborghini.
