- This new track at Spa Francorchamps, created especially for the occasion, borrows the famous Raidillon. It is 913 meters long and has two jumps and a 30 meter wide banking.
- Twenty drivers have signed up for the Spa World Rallycross of Benelux with a strong Belgian presence: Guillaume De Ridder, Enzo Ide, Gregoire Demoustier and the last-minute guest, François Duval who replaces Rokas Baciuska at short notice!
- GRX TANECO have confirmed that Niclas Gronholm will not compete in the Spa World RX of Benelux due to an appendicitis operation. Joni Wiman, who was originally competing at Spa-Francorchamps in a third Hyundai i20, will now step up to collect points in the Teams’ Standings. In a statement, the team said “Due to the appendicitis operation Niclas Grönholm won’t be on the start grid of Spa World RX of Benelux. Joni Wiman will take his place scoring points for the team. Don’t worry – Niclas will be back for #WorldRX Round 4 in Silverstone.”
- The Super1600 European Championship and the RX 2 International Series presented by Cooper Tires will also compete. Finally, the brand new Belgian junior cross-car championship will debut at Spa-Francorchamps. This new FIA homologated car competition aims to make the world of motor racing accessible to the youngest and allow them to discover both asphalt and land-based driving.
The draw for Q1 at the Spa World RX of Benelux, round three of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, has been revealed. ES Motorsport’s Francois Duval will start on pole position for the first race of the weekend and his first race of the season at his home World RX circuit. Both of Team STARD’s drivers will also start in race one, Latvia’s Janis Baumanis and Norway’s Pal Try second and fourth on the grid, either side of EKS Sport’s Krisztian Szabo. GC Kompetition’s Guerlain Chicherit will start on the outside.
GRX Taneco’s Joni Wiman and Timur Timerzyanov will start on pole position in races two and three in the team’s Hyundai i20s. ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport’s Timo Scheider and GCK’s Anton Marklund will both be hoping for better luck than in round two at Catalunya RX from second and third on the grid in Q2. Home heroes Gregoire Demoustier and Guillaume De Ridder will also start in the second race.
Monster Energy RX Cartel’s Andreas Bakkerud will be second alongside Timerzyanov in race three, and his 2018 EKS team mate Mattias Ekstrom will make his World RX return from second on the grid in Q1 race four. Pole for race four will be held by Championship leader Kevin Hansen. RX Cartel’s Liam Doran, Team Peugeot MJP’s Timmy Hansen and GCK Academy’s Cyril Raymond will complete the Q1 grid.
