An update at the end of the first loop of Ypres Rally

Share

We take a look at the Ypres Rally after the first loop.

The first impression – the VW Polo GTI is the car to have, since three of the Wolfsburg machines are in the first three places after the first five stages.

Then we look at Kevin Abbring who started like a cannonball. At the end of 9.48 km opening stage (Zonnebeke), he already led the rest by more than 4 seconds with Craig Breen and Kris Princen having to limit the damage (incredibly they were tied at 4.40 seconds off the lead).

Meanwhile, Sebastien Bedoret (Skoda Fabia) suffered a puncture on the first stage SS 1. Vincent Verschueren would also be afflicted by a puncture a little later on SS5 (Kemmelberg), while he held a solid fourth place. The final important point to touch on from this first loop is again Abbring who went straight in SS 4 (Wijtschate), which will cost him the lead to Breen, who now takes a  3.10 second lead into the second loop.
