The race for the 2021 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series took a giant swing after the conclusion of the second round at Phillip Island yesterday.

Audi, Melbourne Performance Centre and its two drivers Chaz Mostert and Luke King were the big winners, with Mostert leaving the round as the new series leader, despite his right front tyre that delaminated in the last race, costing him an Island clean sweep.

King moved from fourth to second in the standings and, despite his rookie status in the class, seems set to be a title threat.

Alfa Romeo driver Lee Holdsworth dropped from second to third, salvaging enough points from a round where he could not escape dramas.

The biggest loser was former series leader Jordan Cox. Like Holdsworth’s Alfa, Cox was unable to find a consistent run in the pack, afflicted by mechanical issues, incidents and a general lack of speed. The New South Welshman has fallen to 11th in the standings and will be hoping for a better run of luck at the next round at Mount Panorama.

One the other hand, one of the biggest winners was Wall Racing Honda driver Tony D’Alberto. The Victorian returned to form with a three top five results, including second place in the final race.

The winner of that final race, Jason Bargwanna, also made big leaps up the field and now sits in eighth place and within striking distance of those above him.
