As rain fell at Suzuka many teams opted to keep their running limited as Oscar Piastri set the fastest time ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Charles LeClerc. The young McLaren driver set a 1:34.725 lap time in the driving conditions at the end of the session, over 4.5 seconds slower than the FP1 time set by Max Verstappen.
With the conditions sub-optimal, and not reflective of the pending race on Sunday, only five drivers set lap times as many drivers stayed indoors and teams opted not to run.
Free Practice 3 will kick off tomorrow at 11:30 local time as teams prepare for qualifying.
