Munster thrives on tarmac as he learns the WRC fast gravel roads

We’re at the Tet Rally Latvia with Gregoire Munster, who is tackling a new rally in his debut season with M Sport. Having honed his skills on tarmac, transitioning to the fast and flowing gravel rallies has been quite the learning curve for him in the Rally1.

He mentioned, “It’s a bit of a challenge because you need to be fully committed and fast in the corners. When you’re scouting at around 80 or 70 kilometers per hour, it can be tricky.”

“It probably wouldn’t be the same if Martins were to come to Ypres in Belgium and do the rally for the first time. So, for sure, it’s not easy.”

“But when we achieve something like the third best time, by the end of the day, I think it’s really positive.”

As we near the end of the season, he’ll be back on familiar tarmac territory. Hailing from Belgium, a tarmac specialist, he’s eagerly looking forward to the Japanese and Central European Rallies.

When asked if he’s excited about returning to those roads, he shared, “Absolutely, I can’t wait for these ones. The goal here is to make progress throughout the events. If we can strive for a strong performance on this rally, it will allow us to wrap up our season on a really high note.”

Overall, Munster has been thrown in at the deep end and has done an admirable job in the Ford. Now he just needs to end the season on a strong note, tapping into his strengths while learning along the way. His third place finish on a tarmac stage indicates that his strengths are still very much evident.
