The 2024 Silverstone Festival got off to a cracking start on Friday with near perfect weather.

This years festival follows a very similar direction as per previous years. Along with all the track action their are numerous off track activities and this is what makes the Silverstone Festival such a great family event. Offering incredible family entertainment, the three-day Festival is one of the world’s greatest motorsport events celebrating a past era with the best historic track action.

It also offers fun for all the family with live music, a Foodie Fest, shopping village, fun fair rides, a Fan Zone celebrating the world of modern Formula 1 and an Adrenaline Zone.

Tickets give access to both racing paddocks and all open grandstands. They also give entry to the live music concerts, the award-winning Silverstone Museum as well as most of the family festival fun and other major attractions. Evening tickets are also available from 4pm for those wanting to enjoy the last few hours of racing and the evening’s live music.

The track action on Friday was non stop from 9am through to 7pm.

• 09:00-09:18 – Qualifying for the Historic Formula Junior cars kicks off the weekend’s on-track activity. Introduced in 1958 as an affordable stepping-stone to Formula 1, these are small, single-seaters powered by a 1.0/1-litre production engine.  There are two Formula Junior races later in the weekend, getting Saturday and Sunday’s running underway at 09:00.
• 10:13-10:33 – The first F2 Classic Interseries session gets underway with qualifying. Featuring cars from 1967 to 1978 raced by the likes of Jochen Rindt, Ronnie Peterson, Jody Scheckter, Graham Hill and Sir Jackie Stewart. Races for this category can be seen at 09:40 on Saturday and 11:25 on Sunday.

• 11:28-11:48 – Sticking with the theme of F1 feeder series from the seventies and eighties, qualifying for the F3 Classic Interseries will feature classic machinery from Argos, Chevrons, Dallaras, Marches, Martinis and Ralts. F3 races will take place at 11:30 on Saturday and 09:40 on Sunday.
• 13:20-13:50 – The first of three Car Club Anniversary Parades will celebrate landmark anniversaries for the Abarth, Marcos and Alfa Romeo Owners Clubs plus much more! Saturday’s 13:10 parade will do the same for Bentley, Austin Healeys Mustangs and more. Finally, Sunday’s parade at 13:35 is a celebration of Maserati, MK1 Golf and Lancia Stratos among others.
• 17:50-18:17 – In honour of the Mustang’s 60th birthday, the nimble Mini and the roaring V8 ‘stang will do battle around Silverstone for the Pure Michigan Celebration Trophy. Qualifying is on Friday, before the crowd-pleasing race at 17:05 on Sunday.

• 18:31-18:58 – Qualifying for the International Trophy For Classic Gt Cars (Pre ’66) sees the likes of Aston Martin, Jaguar, AC, Porsche, Ferrari, MG, Morgan and TVR racing against Chevrolet, Ford, Austin Healey, Alfa Romeo, Triumph, Lotus and Mustang deciding the grid for the double-driver, mini endurance on Sunday at 18:10.

• 19:15-20:05 – The Silverstone Festival Fun Run is a 5.14k run around the iconic Silverstone circuit raising money for a worthy cause in snvb Community Larders.

Once all the track action had finished the circuit was opened up for the well known Silverstone fun Run. Whilst that was happening the Ebay stage came alive, with some great music from Nath Brooks, Shola Ama and topping the evening was the amazing Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

If that was not enough you could sit back and watch the Hot Air Balloon Night Glow.

Saturdays action looks as though it may be a wet affair and we will be there to catch more of the action as it happens. Tickets are still available to purchase for Saturday and Sunday.
