British GT 2025 Season Preview

Share

This weekend marks the thrilling start of Season 33 of the British GT Championship at Donington Park, where fresh teams, cars, and drivers join the ranks of established stars and champions. While Donington Park isn’t the traditional venue for the opening round, nor is Easter the usual date, this exciting 120-minute race promises a unique challenge compared to the typical two-hour sprints at Oulton Park during the Bank Holiday Monday. The stage is set for a high-octane weekend, and for those unable to attend, live coverage of qualifying and the race will be available on Sky Sports F1 and the SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.

After a winter of significant changes and a reigning champion missing the first round, the GT3 field is poised for a fierce battle. While the newcomers bring a fresh dynamic, the experienced team and driver combinations are likely to hold an early edge.

The GT4 season is always a bit of a mystery, but 2025 is especially unpredictable, with eight cars featuring British GT winners, making this year one to watch closely.

Greystone GT Welcomes Borodin and Webb Back to British GT

Andrey Borodin and Oli Webb are making their full-time return to the British GT Championship with Greystone GT, behind the wheel of a new McLaren 720S GT3. After a one-off appearance at Spa last season, this dynamic duo, who had a standout 2023 campaign, are now back to take on the 2025 season with renewed enthusiasm.

Borodin’s journey in British GT has seen impressive podiums in the GT Cup and a memorable Silver-Am finish at Donington Park in 2022. Webb, with his extensive career including wins in the European Le Mans Series and Dubai 24 Hours, is ready to bring his championship-winning experience back to the British GT grid.

Team Principal Mark McLoughlin is optimistic about their chances, noting Borodin’s continued progress and Webb’s undoubted speed. With the UK circuits known for their challenges, they are ready to make their mark.

With a busy personal life and business commitments, McDermott is focusing on the four-race Endurance Cup, where he will partner with Morris and Team Parker Racing in their Mercedes-AMG. Morris, who clinched the 2024 GT4 Pro-Am title, is excited about the pairing and their potential for podium finishes.

McLaren’s Kirchhöfer Teams Up with Tillbrook for Exciting New Optimum Motorsport Partnership

This season, McLaren’s Marvin Kirchhöfer is joining forces with Morgan Tillbrook for an exciting new chapter at Optimum Motorsport in the British GT Championship.

The German driver, who made a strong impression during his British GT debut with Garage 59 in 2023, is back with a fresh partnership. Kirchhöfer’s debut was one to remember, earning him two pole positions and a podium finish, while his guest appearance at Silverstone in 2022 saw him finish a strong second. This season, he’ll team up with Morgan Tillbrook, a former title contender who switched from Garage 59 to Optimum Motorsport during the off-season.

Together, the duo brings an impressive understanding of the McLaren 720S, having both raced various versions of the car since 2021. Tillbrook’s experience includes three British GT victories and a solid third-place finish in the 2022 championship standings. Last season, Tillbrook, alongside his former co-driver Marcus Clutton—who now competes with Orange/JMH—finished sixth overall, with a standout podium finish at Brands Hatch.

With both drivers having shared time in the Asian Le Mans Series, Kirchhöfer is confident about their potential. “Morgan’s been showing incredible pace in qualifying during the Asian Le Mans Series, which will be key in British GT, especially in the shorter races where starting position is everything,” said Kirchhöfer. “With Morgan handling qualifying in one race and me in another, we’ll be in a great position at tracks like Snetterton and Oulton Park. If we stay focused and keep things clean, we can achieve strong results.”

Looking ahead to the season, Kirchhöfer is determined. “Our goal is simple: to win the championship. I’m feeling confident, and I’m really excited about the challenges ahead!”

Rob Collard and Barwell Ready to Defend British GT Title in 2025

Rob Collard and Barwell Motorsport are gearing up to defend their British GT crown in 2025, with the two-time champion joining forces with rising star Hugo Cook.

Collard, who remains unbeaten over a full British GT campaign, is aiming for his third overall title. After winning in 2020 with Sandy Mitchell and sharing last year’s title with his son Ricky, a third championship would put him ahead of Andrew Howard and just behind all-time record-holder Jonny Adam.

“This year is especially exciting because it’s the first time I’ve had the chance to defend the title,” Collard said. “It’s also a chance to make history as the first Am driver to win three championships. While I would’ve loved to return alongside Ricky, I’m excited to partner with Hugo. He’s a talented young driver with a lot of potential, and I hope to teach him a few things while learning from him as well.”

Collard praised the consistency of Barwell Motorsport and the Lamborghini Huracan, which has become one of his favorite cars to drive. “The team feels like a second family to me, and I’m hoping we’ll be right up there again, fighting for the championship.”

Cook, who turns 21 in July, is eager to prove himself. After a solid first season in British GT with Forsetti, he now steps up to the Pro-Am ranks with Collard. “This is a huge opportunity,” Cook said. “It’s a little daunting, but it’s also how you prove yourself—by rising to the challenge. I think Rob and I will form a great partnership, and I’m looking forward to learning from him and the rest of the team.”

Jack Brown and Marc Warren Team Up for GT4 Title Defense with Optimum

Reigning GT4 champion Jack Brown is back with Optimum Motorsport for his third season, now joined by last year’s title contender Marc Warren.

The pair will race the McLaren Artura, with their sights set on a second consecutive British GT4 championship, as well as a third victory in the Silverstone 500. Brown, one of the most successful drivers in the category, will also be seeking to extend his record of winning at least once every season he’s competed in, which began in 2021.

“I’m excited to return for my fifth season in British GT,” Brown said. “After last season’s success, we’re ready to keep the momentum going and aim for the top spot. I’m looking forward to another competitive and rewarding season.”

Warren, who made his British GT debut last season with Forsetti, finished fourth in points and second in the Pro-Am standings. Now, he’s determined to up his game with Optimum. “I’m thrilled to join Jack and the team,” Warren said. “Last year, we stayed in the fight for the titles until the last round, but this year, we’re coming out to win. Jack and Optimum set the benchmarks for GT4 competitiveness, and I can’t wait to learn and improve alongside them.”

Abba Racing and Neary Family Take on Pro-Am Challenge in 2025

Abba Racing, alongside Richard and Sam Neary, is back for a sixth season in British GT, with some exciting changes. After Sam’s re-grading to Gold status over the winter, the team will now compete in the Pro-Am class.

The familiar Mercedes-AMG GT3 will also sport a new look, with a splash of gold sparkle added to its classic black and green livery. This marks a significant shift for the team, who were runners-up in the Silver-Am class last season but still finished eighth overall in the standings with three podium finishes.

“We’ve always aimed for more than just class wins, and now we’re stepping up to the Pro-Am ranks,” said Richard Neary. “Sam’s gold status reflects his growing abilities, and we’re eager to take on the factory-backed teams this year. Our goal is to fight for a top-five finish in the overall standings, which would be a huge achievement.”

Sam Neary added, “The gold sparkle is certainly not just about the new FIA grading—it’s a sign of how far we’ve come as a team. We’ve got the potential to consistently challenge the bigger teams this year, and we’re ready to take on the challenge.”

With fresh faces, fierce rivalries, and an ever-competitive field, the 2025 British GT Championship is shaping up to be an unforgettable season. Who will come out on top? Only time will tell!
