Robbie Bugden waves to the crowd after his race win in the QBE ASBK at Queensland Raceway

RacerViews was at Queensland Raceway over the weekend for the QBE Australian Superbike Championship and in this interview we catch up with race and round winner, Robbie Bugden.

Bugden who is racing for the Suzuki squad in this is a five time New Zealand Superbike Champion but hasn’t found that sort of success in Australia.  He has won a round of the ASBK on private machine – a massive feat to beat out the Honda and Suzuki factory squads.

It has been a while since he stood on top of the podium in the ASBK but a second in the first race and a win in the second race sealed his round win in Queensland.  In the final race, the top three were barely separated the entire time but Bugden controlled the race to take the win from teammate Wayne Maxwell and Honda’s Josh Hook.

Queensland Raceway is the type of circuit where you have long straights and big stops, meaning you have to manage your brakes and tyres well. It also gives a lot of passing opportunities, making Bugden’s lights-to-flag win all the more impressive.

We talk to Robbie about his race weekend.
