Exclusive audio interview below!

The Bathurst 12 Hour may have come and gone but we still have more content to catch up on from the event.  We caught up with Italian Andrea Montermini after the race when he scored a come-from-the-back drive to finish on the GT3-AM podium.

The Italian has been integral to the development of the Ferrari 458 GT3 and his expertise were called upon from the Vicious Rumour Ferrari who also had Benny Simonson brother of the late Allan Simonsen and Renato Loberto at the wheel.

Many know Montermini from his F1 experience, racing with the three infamous back-of-the-grid teams – Simtek, Pacific and Forti.  He was also involved with the hapless Lola effort and raced Champ Car with the All American Racers squad.  He smashed up his feet with Simtek which means he has to have specialised shoes.

He may have been in Formula 1 but he is most proud of his work with Ferrari, taking out GT Championships and helping develop the GT cars that have brought the company so much success.  He has spent more than a decade with the manufacturer.

It was a no-brainer for the team to bring Montermini to Australia.  It was a trip he enjoyed.  He enjoyed the track and the race.  He was rapid over the weekend and deserved the podium position that he achieved.  We hope to see him back in Australia next year.

In this interview we talk about the weekend, his time with Ferrari and I try to steer the conversation to his time in F1…
