Former Junior WRC Champion, Swede Pontus Tidemand is in the full thrust of developing his career and his obvious rapid pace. He has a heavy schedule this with Skoda Motorsport, rallying in the WRC and over in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), bringing him to the MRF Tyres outfit and the International Rally of Queensland (IROQ).
Pontus has taken one win out of this two appearances so far this year in the APRC and has come to the Sunshine Coast roads after they have been affected by rain – making the challenge of IROQ that much harder. He has also come to work with the Skoda team, still running an S2000 car, which is quite a bit different to the R5 Fabia that he has been running in Europe.
That hasn’t stopped him from being ultra competitive and the enormous about of testing and rallying that he has undertaken is paying off as he seeks to add the APRC Championship to his mantle. It is a Championship that his teammate, Gaurav Gill has won along with his European Skoda counterparts – Lappi and Jan Kopecky have both won.
After the first day of the Rally Queensland, he is in a huge fight with Gill, just 4.6 seconds off the lead, undoubtedly a trip to Australia Zoo (below) and a win will make him remember Australia fondly…
