A look at the BSB in 2015

We love our motorcycle racing here at RacerViews with extensive coverage of the Australian SBK, World SBK and MotoGP. While we in the off season we thought we would look at the British Superbike Championship with thanks to Mark Horsfield.

Josh Brookes has become the first Australian rider since Troy Bayliss in 1999 to win the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, by claiming the opening race victory at the final round of the season at Brands Hatch.

Brookes had been embroiled in a race-long battle with Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne for the first victory and the pair fought hammer and tong for the advantage but in the end it was the Australian who emerged victorious to lift his first title.

Josh Brookes – 2015 BSB Champion:

“It’s amazing. For me I feel like that kid that grew up in Bringelly, a country town west of Sydney, and went to Bringelly Public School, and rode a dirt bike around in a field, and did it for fun, and then one day it was a race, and another race, and then it turned into a career. To be sat here next to Shakey and John Hopkins and be taking the British Championship is something that people have said over the years you’d never do and never get close to. I’ve always had some unknown desire since young age to pursue motorbikes as a career, so it’s not something I can put in words, but it’s something I feel and it feels great.

The championship was always going to be difficult this year, but the PBM team has been 100% behind me all the way so I gave it 100% and a bit more. Well done to Josh and Yamaha, championships aren’t handed to you and you don’t win as many races as what they’ve done without deserving it. We’ll come back next year and try our best to win it back.”

“I am looking forward to good year in 2016; it’s exciting as they are a top flight team who has been around for a long time. I met with the team and everyone was spot on and to be linked with BMW in their official team is also a big plus for me.

“We had a lot of misfortune last year, but I hope we can start the year with some solid performances and build on it from there. I am feeling confident and I want to run at the front and with the right package there is no reason why I can’t. Consistency is important for results, especially with the Showdown, we saw that this year. I don’t know what to expect yet but I can’t wait to have my first test on the BMW.”
