Marc Lieb talks his team switch and more coming to the Bathurst 12 Hour

Share

Marc Lieb is technically retired from professional racing with a CV that includes Le Mans wins and WEC Championships. But he can’t keep away from the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hours. After finishing second last year and winning the Pro-Am class, he is back. This year he will race for the Blackswan Porsche team with Jeroen Bleekemolen, Tim Pappas and Luca Stolz.

Michael Ford: Welcome to Bathurst 12 Hour – you looking forward to getting out there?

Marc Lieb: Yeah of course! Having a blast last year and looking forward to getting back on track this year.

MF: Back on track this year with Manthey Racing…

ML: No I am back with Black Swan! [it is ok, we all make these mistakes! ed] It is difficult to go back with CJ [the Ice Break Porsche] and we wanted to go all together but it didn’t work out as Matt [Campbell] being upgraded to Gold. But anyway I am with a different team. I know Jeroen [Bleekemolen] from Tekno a few years ago. It is looking good, it is always fun driving on the Mountain.

MF: For the Australian market, you have been quiet. Not much word until you were announced. What are your plans for 2018?

ML: As I am fully working in Weissach in the racing department, I am retired from the professional racing at the end of 2016. I did a few races last year and it will be a similar program this year. I probably will do another race in GT3-R and probably another race in the European Le Mans Series.

There is a clash with the Nurbringring and Monza, so most factory drivers are doing the 24 hour of Nurburgring, so I will probably step in for one of our drivers in the RSR. Small stuff like that – nothing big, nothing major.

There was an opportunity to come out to Australia and race Bathurst – so it always good to take it.

MF: Great to see you, you are like an Aussie we love you that much. Best of luck over the weekend.

ML: Thank you!
