It was a good ole Texas shootout Sunday afternoon as Josef Newgarden prevailed in one of the most exciting and energy packed race Texas Motor Speedway has ever seen as he overtook Pato O’Ward to win under caution in the final lap of the PPG 375. Timing was everything for the Nashville-native as once again in the final lap he overtook the leader to win in Texas for the second year in a row and extends his season streak to 9 consecutive seasons in IndyCar with a victory.

The second place finish for O’Ward was bittersweet as he was in contention for the victory from the moment the green flag fell, but with his finish he now leads the overall points standings by seven points over season opener winner, Marcus Ericsson. On top of his runner-up finishing position, O’Ward led the way with 93 position passes during the race, the most since 2016.

Rounding out the top 5 were the #10 Chip Ganassi Racing car of 2021 Series Champion Alex Palou, David Malukas in 4th driving the #18 Dale Coyne machine, and Scott Dixon in 5th.
