We take a look this week at what could possibly be described as grassroots endurance racing in the UK. BRSCC & C1 Racing Club organised this weekend what is in effect the only 24-hour endurance race currently on the UK schedule for 2023. The event started on Friday evening at Silverstone and the GP circuit.
C1 endurance racing is a popular motorsport discipline known for its affordability and accessibility. It features teams competing in identically prepared Citroën C1 cars in long-distance endurance races. C1 endurance racing stands out for its affordability compared to other forms of motorsport. The use of a low-cost production car, the Citroën C1, as the racing platform keeps costs down, making it more accessible for amateur and budget-conscious teams.
With all teams racing in identical Citroën C1 cars, the emphasis is on driver skill and team strategy rather than expensive modifications or high-performance machinery. This creates a level playing field where the outcome is often determined by the team’s ability to strategize and execute race tactics effectively. Despite the limitations of the Citroën C1’s performance, the close racing in C1 endurance events can be highly entertaining. The cars’ similar performance levels often lead to intense battles on the track, with slipstreaming and drafting playing a significant role in overtaking opportunities.
The weekend started with qualifying and a night practice on the Friday evening with the race then starting late Saturday afternoon.
