Race Highlights: 2024 Japanese Grand Prix

Carlos Sainz and teammate Charles LeClerc ended their days in 3rd and 4th respectively as Sainz remains the only driver in 2024 to podium in each of his starts, as he missed the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with an appendectomy and did not post a start for that race. LeClerc, who started 8th, nearly ended his day on the podium but was overcome by Sainz and his fresher tires. Lando Norris was unable t maintain the pace of the Ferrari’s on older tires and was relegated to 5th place at the end, dropping two spots from his original 3rd starting spot as Fernando Alonso followed him home in 6th position.

George Russel, Oscar Piastri, and Lewis Hamilton finished 7th through 9th respectively as Yuki Tsunoda, racing in front of his home crowd, took the final points position in 10th, making him 4 for 4 in points scoring finishes for the year.

Alex Albon and Daniel Ricciardo were involved in a lap one incident that took both drivers out of the race and prompted a red flag as tire barriers in turn 2 needed to be repaired from impact of both the RB and the Williams.
