It wasn’t the cleanest of laps by his own admission, but Max Verstappen will lead the field from pole for Saturday’s Sprint shootout ahead of Ferrari’s Charles LeClerc and teammate Sergio Perez. With the top ten drivers all opting for a single flying lap at the end of the session, the chance for failure was at an all-time high as drivers looked for clear track.
HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the action from Sprint Qualifying in Miami as Verstappen grabs pole
With the top three locked in, it was Daniel Ricciardo who shocked many as he put his RB machine 4th on the timesheets ahead of Carlos Sainz, while his teammate struggled and ended 15th without a time set in SQ2.
McLaren – who looked racy in SQ1 and SQ2 – fell back from their previous pace to start Saturday’s Sprint in 6th for Oscar Piastri and 9th for Lando Norris, while The Aston Martin pair of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso filled in the gap between the two Papaya-clad teammates.
The final spot in the top 10 would go to the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg.
Sprint Qualifying is over as teams prepare for Saturday’s early-afternoon Sprint Shootout, with race-day qualifying set for Saturday afternoon, after the Sprint. Check on the full results below and tune in for more action from Miami.
