The first day of running for the 2024 edition of the Spanish Grand Prix has come to a close as Lewis Hamilton leads the field from Carlos Sainz and FP1’s pace setter, Lando Norris.
With several teams opting to not run the soft compound tire during the first session, the late afternoon would soon provide some clue into this weekends strongest cars as qualifying and race run simulations were in full effect.
Once again, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez found themselves in their own trouble spots, with the Dutch driver complaining of mid-corner understeer and a lack of front-end bite in the corners as teammate Perez fell back on his soft tire runs having waited till later than others as he became out of sync with the field.
Pierre Gasly made a surprise appearance in the top 5, beating out Verstappen for 4th on the time sheets.
All eyes turn to Saturday for the final practice session and qualifying, tune in for all the action on your local streaming networks.
