The final practice for Sunday’s British Grand Prix has concluded and it’s an all-British lockout at the top of the timesheets as George Russell set the pace ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Lando Norris. After a day of overcast, but largely dry day of running on Friday, Saturday’s final practice saw the rain truly come as heavy rainfall overnight left a soaked surface for drivers and teams to tackle before the afternoon qualifying session as drivers would bring intermediate tires on track for a proper test in anticipation of mixed conditions for the remainder of the weekend.

Kevin Magnussen and Max Verstappen were the first to show just how slick the racing surface was as the Haas driver lapped nearly 30 seconds slower than the times set in FP2 yesterday afternoon. Moments later, Verstappen would go for a spin in his Red Bull machine at the exit of Brooklands just before Pierre Gasly would bring out the red flag for beaching his Alpine in the gravel at Club.
The early afternoon showers would hold off for the remainder of the session as drivers took back to the circuit after the red flag, though mixed reports from Russell and Bottas left many struggling for consistency. As the drier line began to appear, it was Hamilton who led the way halfway through the session with a 1:38.065s lap, pushing him up above Charles LeClerc, Norris, and Verstappen. Conditions continued to improve as Hamilton’s teammate Russell would go 0.035s quicker, cementing him on the top of the time sheets for the remainder of the session as Norris, Carlos Sainz, and Verstappen all improved their times but were unable to drop either Mercedes driver down the order.
With qualifying up next it looks to be an all-out fight between the home drivers as Russell, Hamilton, and Norris all look primed to fight for the top step for Sunday’s race start. Catch all the action live at 15:00 local time this afternoon.
