The final free practice session has concluded this afternoon ahead of qualifying as the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell found themselves at the sharp end of the timesheets as Kimi Antonelli is formally announced as Hamilton’s replacement in 2025.
HIGHLIGHTS: Relive the action from FP3 in Monza as the Mercedes duo set the pace ahead of Leclerc
With stoppage time from Friday limiting running, teams were eager to take to the circuit in hopes of completing their respective run cycles prior to qualifying. Of those, George Russell had the most work cut out for him as the crash in FP1 with Antonelli limited his Friday running to only a portion of FP2. Kevin Magnussen also had his work cut out with his FP2 mistake as he bolted on soft compound tires and went quickly tot he top of the running sheets before being dropped back by Max Verstappen on the mediums.
As the track evolved, times dropped further as Charles LeClerc soon set the quickest lap of the session to the cheer of the Tifosi. However, LeClerc, along with Oscar Piastri and Daniel Ricciardo, were all cited for potential impeding incidents, however nothing evolved from this as the initial quick lap runs ended.
Meanwhile, Hamilton would go on to post the quickest lap during the second wave of lap times, narrowly leading teammate Russell by 0.093s as LeClerc settled for P3 ahead of the McLaren pair of Piastri and Norris.
Verstappen ended his final practice sixth ahead of Carlos Sainz in seventh while the Williams pairing of Albon and Colapinto ended eighth and ninth with Nico Hulkenberg filling out the top 10.
