In a flip from the hotly contested first practice it was Lando Norris who emerged on top ahead of the Ferrari duo of Charles LeClerc and Carlos Sainz. With less than six hundredths separating Norris and LeClerc, the verdict is still out on who is the favorite of the weekend as the pair seem to be on a razor’s edge this weekend.
With the first night session of the weekend underway, floodlights took over the circuit as cars took to the streets clad with medium and hard compounds in use. As teams took data for use later in the weekend, Ferrari formed the first concrete 1-2 on the time sheets as Alex Albon, George Russell, and Yuki Tsunoda made up the initial top five. Soon though, as drivers swapped to the soft compound for qualifying runs, Albon took over the top slot by the thinnest of margins, though LeClerc’s time was set on the mediums and would soon be eclipsed by others.
HIGHLIGHTS: Catch the action from FP2 in Singapore as Norris narrowly leads Leclerc while Russell crashes
As the round of soft tire runs came to a close it was McLaren and Lando Norris who held the top spot just clear of LeClerc. Despite a potential wall tap exiting turn 14, LeClerc was over a half second clear of his teammate in 3rd position as Yuki Tsunoda ended forth quickest ahead of Oscar Piastri. Daniel Ricciardo continued his strong form in sixth while George Russell led the Mercedes contingent in seventh, although in the closing stages Russell would lose control of his W15 in turn 8, resulting in the lose of his front wing.
Again, in a strange turn of fortune, Red Bull continued to struggle with pace as Sergio Perez outperformed Max Verstappen with the pair of drivers ending their session 8th and 15th, respectively. Alex Albon would end the session ninth and Nico Hulkenberg would nab 10th ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
Friday’s running is now at a close, tune in tomorrow for all the action Saturday as teams prepare for the final practice ahead of qualifying under the lights in Singapore.
