Final practice this afternoon saw Lando Norris set the pace once again around the Marina Bay Circuit ahead of George Russell by nearly a half a second as Norris’s main rival for the weekend in Charles LeClerc fell back to fifth as Ferrari seemed to suddenly lose pace to its rivals from yesterday’s running. Amidst the sudden drop in form from Ferrari, Max Verstappen seemed to find pace once again as he ended his session forth quickest behind McLaren’s Oscar Piastri as the Red Bull team still struggled to understand what was going on with their RB20.
HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the FP3 action from Singapore as Norris goes quickest
An initial slow start to the final practice session saw Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll take to the track before red flags were thrown as a large lizard had made its way onto the circuit. Marshals worked quickly to clear the large reptile from harms way and once the session resumed, a flurry of activity flooded the track with teams eager to gather data before this evening’s qualifying.
As reports from Piastri and Verstappen came over the radios with both drivers feeling happier with their respective cars compared to yesterday, Charles LeClerc topped the time sheets at the midway point, a tenth clear of the resurgent Verstappen. The order then quickly began to change as the track rubbered in and drivers switched to soft-compound tires, with Russell jumping to the top ahead of LeClerc before Lando Norris dropped in a lap nearly a half second quicker than Russell.
Ferrari meanwhile was unable to answer the challenge laid down by McLaren and Mercedes as LeClerc and Sainz ended their session fifth and sixth quickest ahead of the improved Lewis Hamilton, who, after a rough day of running on Friday, was finding himself to be much happier with his Mercedes in the final practice session. Williams also had a positive session with Albon and Colapinto going eighth and ninth quickest as Alonso rounded out the top ten.
With final practice over, it’s all hand on deck for qualifying this evening under the lights for the 18th round of the 2024 World Championship.
