Classic Rally action from Rally Australia

We take a look back at Rally Australia and the classic rally class.  During the off season we will look to bring you new photos from through the year.  The classic rally class is a hotly contested with Neal Bates leading the charge in his Toyota Celica.  We also see Datsuns, Escorts, Minis and more rally through the forests.

The Audi Quattro replica was a hit, though it had a 40km fuel tank, an issue when the longest stage was 50km

Neal Bates in his Toyota Celica was setting times that would have been competitive with the lower ranks of the current cars.  The four times ARC Champion was impressive throughout the rally

It may not have been going as fast as in the Group B days, but the Audi Quattro replica still could part a sea of people

The Lancia 037 was joined by a Ford RS200 and an MG Metro as display pieces

Bates was caught in the dust of the ARC Renault Clio at the end of the Newry stage.  It was a common complaint with a few harsh words being exchanged

The Mini Cooper was out, again a head tuner.  This shot taken on the second to last stage shows the car in almost showroom condition!

The Ford Escort, not as numerous in Australia as in Europe are still a favorite amongst the historic competitors
