William Byron added another notch in the belt this Sunday as he took his #24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to victory lane in Austin, TX. Winning from pole, Byron commanded the race when he needed to and remained consistent and methodical as he held off the immensely quick Toyota trio of Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs, and Tyler Reddick in the closing laps of the race.
The 2nd win of 2024 and Byron’s 2nd ever road course victory was vindication for coming short in the 2023 edition of the spring COTA race against Tyler Reddick after also starting pole and eventually fading to 5th place.
Teammate Alex Bowman made an impressive run to finish 4th after starting 17th. The #48 driver took his 2nd top-5 finish in a row and his 3rd of 2024 but has yet to be in position to win since his near-victory at the season opening Daytona 500.
Sunday’s caution-free race led many fans to decry the race as “boring”, but a mixture of fuel strategies and penalties for track-limits violations lead to strategically exciting event.
