Charles LeClerc returned to the top of the timesheets this afternoon as the Monegasque driver rebounded from a mediocre first practice to set a 1:11.278s lap time, putting him squarely on top of today’s running as the fastest man in Monaco. Lewis Hamilton continued his positive progress to finish second in the session, 0.188s behind the Ferrari and Fernando Alonso, nearly a pole winner here in 2023, finished his Friday in third, nearly half a second shy of LeClerc.
HIGHLIGHTS: Relive FP2 in Monaco as Leclerc sets the pace and Verstappen clips the barriers
Traffic issues were the highlight of the second session as drivers struggled for gaps along the tight circuit for the best chance as a clean lap as several teams made their longer stints on medium and hard compound tires in preparation for the race on Sunday. However, it wasn’t smooth sailing for some as George Russell reported vibrations through his steering wheel and Max Verstappen complained that his Red Bull was “jumping like a kangaroo” as he improved from 11th to 4th on the time sheets during the second session.
Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz put together respective times to slot in behind Verstappen as Lance Stroll, Sergio Perez, and Alexander Albon ended their session in the top 10 ahead of George Russell.
Tomorrow is qualifying day and as it goes, the leader of FP2 has gone on to capture pole in the last 5 events. Could it finally be curse over for LeClerc and Ferrari? Tune in tomorrow to see all the action live at 12:30 local time for FP3 and 16:00 for qualifying.
