Charles LeClerc picked up where he left off on Friday setting the pace in the final Monaco practice session ahead of Max Verstappen, who improved significantly from Friday, and Lewis Hamilton, who has remained a constant pressure point all weekend. With qualifying looming in the distance, teams were quick to jump on track in hopes of fine tuning their cars for perhaps the most critical qualifying session of the year.
HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the action from FP3 in Monaco as Bottas crashes, traffic sparks drama and Leclerc sets the pace
Having what many coined as Red Bull’s worst start to a weekend, Verstappen and Perez continued to be plagued by balance and bouncing problems with no end in sight for the weekend, however both Red Bull’s improved their pace to finish the final practice inside the top 5 – a far cry from their 11th and 12th place start in FP1.
Valtteri Bottas found the limit of his Kick Sauber about 15 minutes into the session when he hit the wall at the exit of Piscine and forced marshals to throw the weekends second red-flag. The stricken Sauber was removed from the track and mechanics will have their work cut out for them as the right front suspension will need to be rebuilt in anticipation of qualifying.
The drama continued into the latter stages of FP3 as drivers tripped over one another attempting to build space for their flying laps, leading to angry messages and frustration from several in the field.
LeClerc set the days fastest time amidst a furious run of soft tire laps for the field as Verstappen slotted two-tenths back from the hometown hero, while Hamilton, Piastri, and Perez rounded out the top 5. Further down, George Russell led from Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, Yuki Tsunoda, and Fernando Alonso in 10th position.
