Rain once again proved problematic in the second practice session of the weekend as Fernando Alonso led George Russell and teammate Lance Stroll on the timesheets. The Spanish driver set a 1:15.810s lap during the early, dry part of the session as teams scrambled for clear laps with the threat of rain impending.

Lando Norris, quickest in FP!, was at the bottom of the timesheet in the second session, over 5 seconds off the pace of Alonso as McLaren look to understand how their car can be so inconsistent.

Red Bull and Max Verstappen had a session to forget as the Dutchman retired from running early as smoke began to come our of his RB20 midway through the session. Later the team would confirm Verstappen had suffered an ERS issue and would not return to the track on Friday.
