Wayne Maxwell took out his first Australian Superbike Championship this year. He switched to the Suzuki team for the 2013 season and didn’t look back. He dominated the non-championship round at Phillip Island that supported the WSBK – showing his rivals that they would be for a fight for the 2013 title.
In the end, the Championship would be between the Suzuki duo of Wayne Maxwell and Robbie Budgen with Glenn Allerton‘s BMW and the Honda duo of Josh Hook and Jamie Stauffer. None of them could prevent Maxwell from taking the title, who took the title with a win at the final round, again at Phillip Island.
Maxwell has been competing in top line Australian motorcycle racing for the best part of the last 10 years but it wasn’t until 2008 that he got his big break, joining the Teknic Honda team in the Supersport Championship – finishing third. Form there he was able to graduate to the ASBK, running with teams like Motologic and the Sprint Gas Honda outfit. Joining Suzuki in 2013, his aim was to take the Championship – and did so, joining names like Troy Corser, Steve Martin and Bryan Starring as ASBK Champions.
In this interview we talk about his 2013 title run, and have an interesting chat about the future.
