For both fans and drivers, the rally hunger is very high after the enforced, several month halt. In just a few days, dozens of registrations poured in for the Station Le Seau Monteberg Rally, which is moving to Poperinge this year. The entry list is already full three months before the competition. The message -register quickly for the Renties Ypres Rally!
Beautiful weather, spring jitters and the improving situation with the corona crisis means that life looks a lot better than a few weeks ago and future plans are being made. Rally teams also want to blast over the special stages as soon as possible. Soon after the announcement that the Station Le Seau Monteberg Rally will be held on August 30, the Club Superstage was swamped with registration requests. The maximum capacity was well exceeded, so we can already announce a “full house”.
The Monteberg Rally is the ideal preparation race for the various races in the Autumn, including of course the Renties Ypres Rally, which will be held on October 3 and 4. We already have about 20 R5’s on the registration list. The top Belgian rally drivers clearly want to prepare well for the second half of the season, because BRC leader Ghislain de Mevius (Skoda Fabia R5) will compete in the Monteberg against Kris Princen (Citroen C3 R5), Sébastien Bedoret (Skoda Fabia R5), Vincent Verschueren (VW Polo GTI R5), Guillaume de Mevius (Citroën C3 R5), Niels Reynvoet (Skoda Fabia R5) and Davy Vanneste (Citroën C3 R5). Junior Gilles Pyck makes his debut with a Ford Fiesta R5, a car that Bert Coene will also use. There is also a lot of interest from the British side, undoubtedly with a view to the Renties Ypres Rally. We can welcome two Proton Iriz R5s, driven by Ollie Mellors and Liam Egan, and Callum Black will test run his Ford Fiesta R5 while Melvyn Evans will launch a Skoda Fabia R5. After the cancellation of the Dutch Rally Championship, some of our Northern neighbours are looking for competition. Hans Weijs wants to repeat his 2019 victory with his VW Polo R5, while Jeroen Swaanen will also be back with his Skoda Fabia R5. Opposition will come from Jasper and Jim van den Heuvel, each with a Ford Fiesta R5, like Michiel Eckhaus.
There is even more R5 force on the cards with Jeoffrey Lerminez (Fiesta R5) and Stijn Vandaele (Skoda Fabia R5). Porsche fans will see Delplace, Tanghe and Debyser, while the howling BMW M3 E30s of Bjorn Syx, Danny Kerckhof and Christophe Merlevede are on the list. There are a number of fast R2s so the 48th edition of the Station Le Seau Monteberg Rally promises to be a top edition.
Decide quickly for Ypres
Registrations for the Renties Ypres Rally are also already open. Given the hunger for competition among the teams, registering quickly is the message. No one wants to miss this special autumn edition. There will be more tests in the dark, slippery roads and a top international entry list. We can expect a great rally on October 3 and 4. Britm Ashley Field has set a good example by registering for both the Monteberg and Ypres with his Opel Adam R2. Who will follow?
